KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Barbados Pride got the better of the exchanges on the penultimate day of their day/night third round encounter against Jamaica Scorpions to close in on first innings lead in the rain-hit contest.

But the Regional four-day match was headed for inevitable draw as Pride, replying to Scorpions’ first innings of 176 for eight declared, reached 112 for two at the close at Sabina Park here late Saturday night.

Captain Shamarh Brooks top-scored with 48 while opener Shayne Moseley was unbeaten on 41, leaving the visitors only 64 runs behind entering Sunday’s final day.

The pair posted 68 for the second wicket after left-handed opener Anthony Alleyne fell cheaply for three with the score on 26.

Brooks faced 89 deliveries and counted eight fours while Moseley has so far struck three fours and a six in a 118-ball innings.

Earlier, Scorpions struggled after resuming on 111 for two, losing wickets steadily as seamer Kevin Stoute and off-spinner Ashley Nurse made inroads.

Only Derval Green, batting at number nine, showed any enterprise as he lashed 30 from 22 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Stoute ended with four for 58 while Nurse picked up three for 52.

Nurse bowled Assad Fudadin in the third over of the day after the left-hander had added just three to his overnight 15 and three balls later in the next over, Stoute trapped the other overnight batsman Brandon King for 12, to leave Scorpions on 120 for four.

Overall, five wickets tumbled for 27 runs before Green and captain Paul Palmer (12 not out) put on 33 for the eighth wicket to add respectability to the total.
